Plan, Organize, Build Your Mutual Assistance Group, Charley Hogwood

Want to know how to create a prepper group- and do it successfully?

Just what is a MAG (Mutual Assistance Group) anyway? What should you consider before you seek out potential prepping friends and where should you start looking?  How do you talk to people without sounding crazy and without giving away any secrets?   How prepared should a candidate be before you consider them for your group? How many people should a group have?  What are some ideas to help the group work together better and reduce conflict?  Should a group have regular meetings, and if so, what should you do at a meeting? And, should your group accept money from members, in place of participation?

Find out all this and more on this Secrets of a Survivalist radio show.  This week we talk with Charley Hogwood, Author of the book:  MAGS- The People Part of Prepping – How to Plan, Build, And Organize a Mutual Assistance Group in a Survival Situation.

Charley has many years of experience in the military as a Reconnaissance Scout and Infantry Squad Leader where his job was to train and lead people of various skill levels and personalities in a multitude of missions in the field. Charley holds 35 FEMA certifications and a certificate in Emergency Management. He took his passion of preparedness to work by creating Personal Readiness Education Programs where he trains people in the ways of survival and preparedness.

Tammy Trayer, author of Mountain Woman Journals, is a freelance writer, an author, a radio show hostess, and a longtime web designer. She specializes in the outdoors environment, is an active entrepreneur, a true pioneer women, an avid hunter, an accomplished outdoorswoman, experienced homesteader, active homeschool mother and wife.

Tammy is a Christian, self-reliant Mom living off-grid and living untraditionally in Idaho with her husband and son. They practice and enjoy the “less is more” lifestyle, and find the far woods and hills more rewarding than they ever imagined!

Even with the restrictions of being totally off-grid, Tammy is able to be a contributing writer for these magazines, chronicling her homesteading and pioneer lifestyle to help others achieve their independence from the urban environment:

Tammy’s accomplishments can be found online at these websites:

We had an outstanding trouble-free telephone connection during our interview—testimony to husband Glen’s prowess with equipment and tools.

Tammy admits they wouldn’t be where they are now if it were not for God’s hand in things. She says the family feels nudged by inspirational guidance to be able to:

  • Educate their son
  • Share their knowledge and lifestyle
  • Inspire others to be self-reliant

Tammy is indeed willing and eager to share her knowledge, skills, and talents about the family’s unconventional and non-traditional lifestyle. On the show, she discussed with Doctor Prepper her love of:

Preparedness Maven, Practitioner, Teacher and Role Model, Donna Miller

Donna Miller, first and foremost, is a teacher, author, sought-after speaker and trainer in the preparedness industry. She has been a both guest and host on Internet and broadcast radio talk shows, television interviews, and expositions. She enjoys teaching online and local preparedness classes and ladies’ retreats for people to learn more than just head-knowledge of preparedness skills.

Under the leadership of her husband Joseph, Donna and her family have been actively preparing for more 25 years. It was only a few short years ago that the discussions about “preparation” seemed far-fetched and radical. Today, it has become a mainstream topic all over the world––and people are now highly active toward learning how to be more prepared.

The Millers have been blessed to meet many people along the preparedness journey who inspire and encourage them. This journey looks different for each family and they’ve enjoyed learning and growing along the way by having first-hand experience with building and living out of a year’s food supply, bartering and teaching ourselves ‘old skills’ to enrich their lives. Donna is happily married and has three adult children, and a daughter in-law. She and her husband Joseph are the founders of Millers Grain HouseYour Preparation Station and are on th  e board of PREPARE Magazine.

PreparednessRetreat.com is the first known weekend preparedness training just for families! Donna and Joe have been in planning for this event since late 2013. This Preparedness Retreat will include on-site and hands-on training, networking, and equipping attendees with the survival skills they need for perilous times.

Welcome to the Preparedness Retreat Center! The entire cost of the weekend of classes and training will be inclusive for all meals, accommodations and classes! Only one class is an extra charge—the Refuse to be a Victim class offers a certificate for completing the course work, and the $10.00 fee is required for the NRA certification. Details of classes, accommodation packages, and rooms and camper/parking costs are available at: alwaysreadystore.com. The prices for the Preparedness Retreat are a bargain for the value you’ll receive! Additional information available by calling (800) 361-1797 Ext 8 or email to: info@preparednessretreat.com.

Trainers and presenters are some of the most knowledgeable experts in their fields:

  • Charles Daugherty of Patriot Crime Defense is the presenter for the Refuse to be a Victim class.
  • Jim Kennard, CEO of Food For Everyone Foundation will be teaching the effectiveness of the Mittleider Gardening Method.
  • Jason Hunt from Frontier Christian University will be teaching how to build fires when extreme conditions exist.
  • Donna Miller will teach solar cooking and other preparedness techniques for feeding and sustaining the family.
  • Joseph Miller will instruct in his perspective of spiritual preparedness and discuss his vision of the future of Biblical references and issues for families.

Classes will be taught twice to assure all attendees can attend all the instructional classes.

Donna has been part of the PreparednessRadioNetwork.com since its succession to the Doctor Prepper Talk Show in June 2010. Just a few months later, Donna and her husband Joseph launched YourPreparationStation.com with the purpose and mission to provide quality products and purpose-filled training in personal and family preparation (preparedness), self-reliant living, and survival during difficult times.

The Miller family has been active in preparing for many years, and they feel they have been blessed to meet many people along the preparedness journey who inspire and encourage them. They’ve seen YPS grow into a vibrant community of friends who share the interest of preparing and frugal living. YPS helped the Miller family succeed in their effort to find others to join with them in their journey and are grateful for the opportunity to share ideas, tips, skills, and lots of money-saving suggestions with their new-found friends. On YPS , the Millers share tips and resources on self-reliant living, gardening, farming, solar energy, livestock, homesteading, milling and baking with whole grains, and to living more frugally and saving money on grocery bills. In addition to being a great resource for information, YPS also provides insight into the heart and mind (knowledge) they want to share by teaching correct principles. YPS continues to expand its preparedness products and informational services. Donna and Joseph look forward to a very busy and successful future as they expand their combined efforts to share their passion, creativity, and expertise in preparedness, prepping, and family survival issues.

The Millers are always looking for others to join with them in their journey and are grateful for the opportunity to share ideas, tips, skills, and lots of money-saving suggestions. Their desire is to peacefully build an encouraged and empowered, prepared and self-reliance community in the midst of chaotic times.

The Millers also own and operate MillersGrainHouse.com as the family business which provides tips, training and retreats as well as vital supplies for preparing yourself and your home for an uncertain future and gaining many important back to basics skills.

MGH has as its mission to provide training and resources for individual and family preparation. From bulk grains for storage, solar energy, to gardening and housing tools, Donna works hard to find preparation supplies that will assist you as you prepare. MGH carries a full line of whole grains, grain milling, and kitchen supplies. MGH also offers training on how to mill grains and bake with whole grains. Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Relief

Jennifer Elswick, a professional preparedness and disaster worker and CERT teacher, discusses her passion for helping people become prepared––especially with food storage. Jennifer tells us how to help ourselves and others in need and also the why and how of using Thrive foods for long-term storage and every day as well!

Preparedness has been a driving force for Jennifer and her husband since Hurricane Andrew in 1992. She now helps others with networking and resourcing is every aspect of family preparedness. She realizes that supporting the prepping family keeps America alive and strong.

Jennifer and her husband and I have been personally working in Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Relief for more than 20 years––since Hurricane Andrew hit South Florida. They felt in their hearts that they should help the victims, marshalled their own and other volunteered support, and that was the true start to their disaster relief mission.

Emergency Preparedness has always been a way of life for them––they hadn’t a name for it until that point in time, but they discovered their inner prepper and have continued to be  preppers since that event. They recognize that people need to have a little more of everything stored to get their family through such occurrences, and that weather-ret or ; they can happen at any time.

Ken and Jen have formed an amazing network––a prep family––that has brought us to where we are today.  It has been wonderful journey that has blessed them for more than 20 years.

They teach people how to affordably purchase long-term food storage and emergency items can be purchased affordably.

How to acquire Non-GMO, MSG-free and healthy food––including an organic line of items.
Using Thrive foods on a daily basis and saving money.  Stop wasting time, money and throwing food away.
Establish networking and preparedness with proper groups of people and create a preparedness community.
